Botox

Botox is a purified protein that blocks the transmission of certain chemicals across nerve endings, thus blocking the messages sent from nerves to muscles. Therefore, Botox can and has been used to safely decrease the appearance of facial wrinkles for over 20 years.

Treatment is available in injectable form and is most commonly used to treat glabellar frown lines (in between the brows), crow’s feet, and forehead lines*. (*The area is safe for treatment, however, it is currently considered ‘off label’.)

One Botox treatment can last up to 4 months, although repeated injections are required to maintain the effect of the medication. At our office, Botox is sold for $12/unit. We do our best to disclose to our patients the projected amount of product needed to adequately treat the desired area before starting the injections. On average, most patients require 20-25 units to treat any given area. Always ask about any specials we may be running on our Botox treatments.

Most people start to see an effect two to seven days after the injection. You will begin to notice a more relaxed and refreshed appearance to your skin*. In our office, we want our patients to maintain a natural appearance, not a “frozen” look. When it comes to treatment with Botox, less can sometimes mean more.
